iPad launches internationally
AT&T has not only killed the unlimited data plans for smartphone users like the iPhone but they’ve also killed the unlimited data plans for iPad users.
AT&T has announced that the $25 per month 2 GB plan will replace the existing $29.99 unlimited plan for new iPad customers.
Currently iPad users in the US can opt for either the $29.99 per month unlimited data plan or the $14.99 per month 250 MB plan.
AT&T has announced the following changes for new iPad customers from June 7:
For new iPad customers, the $25 per month 2 GB plan will replace the existing $29.99 unlimited plan. iPad customers will continue to pre-pay for their wireless data plan and no contract is required.
However, they’ve clarified that existing iPad users can continue to stick to their unlimited data plans.
Existing iPad customers who have the $29.99 per month unlimited plan can keep that plan or switch to the new $25 per month plan with 2 GB of data.
It has been just over a month since Apple’s iPad 3G model has been available so the change in data plans for iPad users comes as a surprise.
It is also disappointing to see AT&T capping the data to only 2GB for a tablet device like the iPad, which is essentially a device for media consumption. If you're planning to buying an iPad 3G, we would strongly recommend you to buy it before June 7 so that you can still opt for the unlimited data plan.
