RIM's co-CEO Lazaridis has described the Playbook as “the first professional tablet”. It is expected to be released in the US in early 2011 and in international markets later. However, RIM also plans to release 3G and 4G versions of Playbook in the future.

Playbook will also be able to connect to wireless networks through a BlackBerry smartphone, which is missing  in the Apple's iPad.
